Kamilah Forbes is a burgeoning director, producer, actor and playwright. She is particularly noted for her strong commitment to developing work by, for and about the Hip-Hop generation. As the Artistic Director of the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, an annual 3-week festival that takes place in New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC, and Chicago, she has seen the festival grow from a fledgling project into an independent, not-for-profit entity with national scope. The Festival has featured the work of nearly 100 artists from around the world, including Will Power, Sarah Jones, Rennie Harris, Nilaja Sun, Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Indio Melendez.
She is a member of the Folger Shakespeare performance troup in Washington, DC, and a co-founder of the Nommo Cultural Arts Camp for under-privileged youth in Kingston, Jamaica. She holds a BFA from Howard University and is a recipient of the Owen Dodson Excellence in New Performance Award.
