Lee Reynolds Award 2004-2005 - Gretchen Cryer & Nancy Ford
Gretchen Cryer, Bookwriter/lyricist, and Nancy Ford, Composer, in their work together are probably best known for I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It On the Road, which premiered at the Public Theatre in 1978 and moved to The Circle in the Square/Downtown for a three-year run. It was produced around the world and was recorded in five languages. Their first show in New York, Now Is the Time for All Good Men, was followed by the critically acclaimed, award-winning off-Broadway show The Last Sweet Days of Isaac and the Broadway show Shelter. The Manhattan Theatre Club produced their revue, Hang On to the Good Times and the Williamstown Theatre Festival premiered their musical Eleanor (recently revised as Einstein and the Roosevelts). Their two family musicals for American Girl played in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles from 1998-2008. Their musical adaptation of Anne of Green Gables for TheatreWorks/USA, opened in March of 2007 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and toured schools across the country. An original cast album was released in March of 2009. Cryer and Ford have appeared in concert and cabaret, most recently in sold-out performances at 59E59 in New York City. Between the two of them they have garnered a Grammy nomination, an Obie, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics' Circle Award, an Ed Kleban Award, two Joseph Jefferson Awards, two Emmys, two Writers Guild Awards, and four honorary doctorates. Ms. Ford was formerly and Ms. Cryer is currently a council member of The Dramatists Guild of America and President of the Dramatists Guild Fund.
