Lee Reynolds Award - Harriet Slaughter

Harriet Slaughter

Harriet started her career in the theatre while still a wee babe when she appeared at the Margo Jones Theatre, including the original production of Inherit the Wind. She received her BFA in drama and dance at the University of Texas and rushed to The Great White Way soon after graduation where she landed a job as production assistant for The Hostage while continuing to perfect her toe tap routine. She was soon discovered by summer stock producers who let her scrub floors, make her own costumes and occasionally act, sing, dance and choreograph. She shimmied and shook audiences with her portrayals of the Belly Dancer in Man of La Mancha and Fruma-Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. She served as Co-President of the League of Professional Theatre Women, while in real life she slaved in the trenches at the League of American Theatres and Producers.
