A central aspect of the 30th celebration focuses on the League's oral history legacy, which demonstrates an outstanding array of women who have contributed to contemporary American theatre.
Fortunately for the public, the Library for the Performing Arts Theatre on Film and Tape Archive (TOFT) is the repository of this extensive documentation. The nearly one-hundred (100) women appearing in this exhibition have participated in at least one of the components of the oral history program. They include:
*An ongoing series of individual oral histories, begun in 1992 in conjunction with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, videotaped before a live audience.
*WOMEN IN THEATRE - Interviews with Notable Women in American Theatre, a television series of 65 interviews, taped over five years (2003-07), and broadcast on City University Television, with copies distributed to the TOFT Archive. Currently, selected interviews are streamed on the League web site, www.theatrewomen.org.
“Celebrating Our Legacy” is a culmination of the League of Professional Theatre Women's efforts to highlight the remarkable talents that theatre women across the country have contributed to American cultural life. This is their celebration as well as ours -- a wonderful legacy for future generations.
