JULIA’S READING ROOM (JRR) is a membership activity, founded by Julia Miles to give women playwrights a platform where they could share work-in-progress with colleagues and gather feedback. JRR has also become an avenue for League Directors, Actors and Playwrights to discover one another and forge new connections. 

In an effort to include Directors, Producers and other members who are developing projects, this season’s lotteries will include Playwright slots as well as Non-Playwright slots. In this way, Directors, Producers, and other League members with projects-in-process may enter the lottery as well. The only requirement is that anyone requesting a JRR spot must have a project in the works.  These readings are by invitation only, they are for members and their invited guests. They are sharings of works-in-progress and are not “staged readings” or “public-facing.”

For the PLAYWRIGHT SLOTS (We will choose 3)
  • Playwrights with a current project may submit their name & project for this drawing.
  • The League prefers League Directors for these readings. A list of directors will be available.
  • Outside directors may be permitted, but the use of women directors for these activities is strongly encouraged.
For the NON-PLAYWRIGHT SLOTS (We will choose 1)
  • Any artist from any discipline (in good standing with LPTW) may submit their name & project for these two slots. 
  • Outside artists may be included (directors, writers, etc.) with a “no questions asked” protocol.  

Alternates for each category will also be chosen on May 7th.
