Members of the League of Professional Theatre Women are encouraged to join committees on a volunteer basis to help further the League’s mission. Below you will find a list of currently active committees. Members of the League may also propose a committee they are interested in chairing to the Co-Presidents. For any questions on joining an existing committee or how a committee operates, please
contact us.
The membership committee looks at the issues of how best to serve our membership, exploring new member activities and other ideas that can make the membership more proactive, connected and valuable to each of our members and to the larger theatre industry as a whole. Committee work also includes ways to expand membership, retain current members and draw back lapsed members as we grow and become a more modern organization. The committee convenes monthly on zoom and in the interim, by email, vets applicants seeking to join according to the criteria for membership in the League.
Discipline Roundtables
Formerly called the Circles by Discipline, these are self-directed gatherings by your discipline(s) to discuss relevant topics, work on related material or just chat as each roundtable sees fit and wishes to manage their roundtable. Click here to join existing roundtables (or create new ones!)
Julia's Reading Room Committee
Julia’s Reading Room, developed by Julia Miles, founder of the Women’s Project New York City, provides the unique opportunity for any League member to hear and observe their early work read by professional actors for the purpose of further development. The readings take place in a friendly informal living room environment in front of a small, supportive, invited audience, with discussion.
Travel Committee
The Travel Committee, formed in 1996, plans International and Domestic theatrical trips that are complemented with an educational and cultural value. It is open to all LPTW members and International Affiliates. Non-Members and guests are welcome but must pay an additional $50 Non-Member fee.
The Programming Committee is directly responsible to produce the programming events, which are the Season Launch, the Twelfth Night Party, the Lucille Lortel Award(s), and the Annual Meeting. All other award events are produced by a membership leader and are assisted by volunteers and a programming point person.
PROGRAMMING EVENTS:
EVENTS EXTERNAL WITH PUBLIC:
These award events require a single point of authority producing the respective event from the membership, with the assistance of programming, and volunteers from membership.
We want to let the world know about all of the great things happening at the LPTW! The Communications/Promotions & Outreach Committee is dedicated to effectively spreading the LPTW’s mission by engaging OUR membership with the outside community.
Cheer
The Cheer Committee sends congratulations and condolences to members and friends of the League on behalf of the League. If you know of a member to whom it would be appropriate to send a card, note, flowers or fruit basket, please reach out and send an email.

Finance Committee
A committee of the Board that provides oversight of the Budget as well as advice to the full Board on allocating resources to Committees and initiatives aligned with organizational values and priorities. Can be composed of both Board and non-Board members.
Governance & Compliance Committee
Want to learn about our 501 C3 status and be a part of structuring our future?
Legacy Council
This committee is entrusted with preserving and keeping alive the institutional memory of the LPTW with the purpose of serving and advising our present-day board, committees and members. This Council is self-governed in the sense that Council members elect new members to their group.
Nomination & Elections Committee
The Nomination and Election committee assists the first term Co-President by obtaining and accepting a slate of nominees for the election of officers and board members to the Board of Directors for its approval. The committee also keeps track of terms and is a resource should a board or officer vacancy arise during the year.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility
This committee works to expand the League’s internal focus about EDIA and to assist the organization's reach to the many communities we seek to be participants in the League.
